I ride in memory of my in-laws, Herb and Delores, who both had battles with cancer during their lifetimes. As in years past, I also ride in honor of all the brave warriors, young and old, who are currently kicking cancer’s butt and showing me what strength in the face of challenge looks like, day by day.

My Story

This September, for the tenth year, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So together, Gene and I are raising funds through this challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer. Our team is Old Folks on Bikes. If you like to ride, we can always use more team members and/or company for a stretch!

This year, September is going to be a busy month, with my second book being released. (It's a poetry chapbook titled Mississippi Meanderings.) After my book launch on September 5th, we'll be traveling to different locations in and around the state to do some promotion. A major bike trip will have to wait, but our bikes, Coco and Ash, will come with us wherever we go and we'll be looking for interesting trails to get some riding in every day, if we can. Stay tuned! As our plans develop, I'll let you know where we are and will post pictures of us with our trusty steeds.
