I'm Riding For

James

James is an 11-year-old courageous young boy with neuroblastoma. This is a very rare type of cancer to treat. He is just like every other 11-year-old boy who loves his family, playing with friends, riding his bike, hiking, summer camp, swimming, basketball, and skiing. But above all he has an abundance of courage to continue with his chemo and radiation treatments which have not been easy on him or his family. I am confident and continue to pray that James will be cured someday, so he can begin catching up on the life he has been missing out on. He will live a long, healthy, and happy life. A future life which will be amazing.

My Story

This September I am proud to be riding for my fifth straight year in Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So, I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

This year I will be ridding 150 miles in support of all these wonderful and brave kids, and this is the third year I'm riding especially for a super brave and energetic 11-year-old James who has neuroblastoma.

James has been battling neuroblastoma since late 2022. He just returned home to Wisconsin after being away for two months at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he received a new form of CAR-T therapy (which seemed to work very well for him!). Through it all, James has kept an amazingly positive attitude and loves Legos, Star Wars, playing with his friends, and traveling around the country visiting national parks.

I've been keeping up with James' progress on Caring Bridge, and it looks like the cancer is back, and they are pursuing a trial treatment once he turns 12. I pray for him every night. Separate note, I checked out some biking trails around Madison recently, and it looks like there are some beautiful trails all over Wisconsin. I may have to add Madison to my riding list next September since I'll be making up for this year's shorter rides. I had surgery on my Achillies tendon 4-weeks ago and won't be cleared to ride until the middle of September. How's the weather in Madison in September? Also, I just realized that I don't have your phone number, otherwise I would have thanked you via text. Love, Bill”
