My Story
This September, I am riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer for my 5th year! This year, I will be riding in honor of Jameson Thagard.
Each year I ride to support this challenge, and I each year I have considered myself fortunate that I didn’t personally know a child facing this challenge. Working in healthcare, I have met children fighting…but I have been spared this worry on a person level. Until this year when Jameson, the beautiful son of friends Jessi and Joe, who I worked with in the emergency room, was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH).
While LCH is incredibly rare (about 19 cases diagnosed in the US each year), the risk and the fear is real and serious. Jameson bravely faced his first round of chemo, which didn’t bring the result we all hoped for. His treatment changed, and he continued his fight, and his army of family and friends continued to pray and send all the positive energy they could to him, his Mom, his Dad, and his baby sister, Junie. Following round two, his PET scan after showed much improvement. His skull, thymus and spine tumors were gone, and his shoulder tumor was much improved. He still has two spots being watched closely, but this past May he started maintenance chemo for one year.
I am raising funds through my challenge to help all kids facing this unsurmountable challenge, and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
