My Story

7 Sep 2024

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Jeff

  • End of Week 1
    8 Sep 2024

Well, it is hard to admit, but I am not the same person I was 20-30 years ago. In so many ways I am better, although those things that make me better in life make me a little worse in terms of what matters second-most in this event. I will make my fundraising goal. That is the critical goal, and there is no questioning that at all. However, I have had to change my mileage goal.

1,000 miles ridden was a very lofty goal. 20-30 years ago, I would have hit it without a problem. However, my priorities and commitments are much greater now, and they are also critically important. If nothing else, my experience and education have taught me much about strategic planning and goal setting. They are dynamic and demand compliance and adherence. I planned to put in a couple of century rides, but I can no longer bank on getting those in. I planned on logging several doubles per week. I can no longer bank on those. I can bank on my commitment and consistency. I can bank on my stubbornness. So, reluctantly but with steely resolve, I have lowered my goal to a much more manageable 600 miles for the month, and I will hit that goal.

    2 Sep 2024

Well, today did not go according to script as I spent a lot of my day working on home improvement things for a family friend. Undeterred, I knew I needed to get something logged. A quick 5.3 miles got things started, and I will push harder from here. I will hit the 1,000 miles. The money is more important, though. I’ve got to get to work there!
