Cancer. Let’s let that one word sink in for a moment.

Can you think of a scarier word? A more frightening force to fight against? It is unrelenting and indiscriminate and has taken more lives than any one thing should have the right to. And in the most heartbreaking of ways, it connects us all. Because we have all either experienced it firsthand, or have loved someone who has.

Cancer is awful, but it is so much more extremely cruel when it happens to kids. As a father, my greatest fear is the loss of my children. I can only imagine what losing a child can do to a parent, because the simplest thought of it is enough to tear me up inside. No child should have to lose their life before they’ve had a chance to live it.

There are an estimated 15,780 American children (over 300,000 globally) diagnosed with cancer every year. For the last 4 years I’ve signed up for the Great Cycle Challenge to help raise money and awareness for childhood cancer, because I can’t sit idly and not do my part in making even a fraction of a difference. It could be my kids. It could be yours. Let’s give them all the fighting chance they deserve.
