Trike Down, Spirits Up!

Hello Friends and Fellow Adventurers,

Today marks the grand finale of my riding escapades for the year! I had the absolute delight of teaming up with the incredible Vermont and New Hampshire Adaptive Sports crew in Lebanon, NH. We embarked on epic journeys with riders of all abilities on a dazzling array of adaptive bikes. Met some awe-inspiring folks along the way!

Now, for the plot twist: during one of our thrilling rides, I had a rather dramatic encounter with a rock. Long story short, the trike is now in need of some serious TLC, and alas, won't be back in action this month.

But fret not! While my trike takes a breather, my fundraising game is still going strong. For those who thought I was done collecting pledges—surprise! I'm coming for you, and your generosity, soon.

Off to a Slow Start

Hey folks! So, between dodging raindrops, catching Z's, and some good ol' mechanical drama with my trusty steed, it’s been a bit of a slow start to my biking adventures. But fear not! I finally made it to Lebanon, New Hampshire yesterday, where I took a delightful little jaunt on the Mascoma River Greenway.

I teamed up with the Recreation Therapy Department at the VA Hospital in White River Junction. Big shout out to Jennifer Stark, our fearless leader and Director of Fun (okay, officially the Director of the department, but close enough)! She wrangled more than a dozen of us into this three-wheeled escapade.

The ride was awesome, and I only fell off my trike... zero times! So here's to more rides, more laughs, and hopefully fewer naps (but no promises there)! Keep pedaling, everyone!

Gauge Reo Thornton 2/14/2013 - 10/21/2021 - A Life Full of Adventure and Courage

Once again, It is my honor to ride in memory of Gauge.

Gauge was a remarkable child whose love for life and the outdoors brought joy to everyone around him. He adored animals and embraced every opportunity to try something new, especially if it meant being outside. Tragically, his journey was marked by an immense battle with cancer. Diagnosed at just six years old on March 5, 2019, Gauge faced Stage 3 Group 3 Rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate and bladder with incredible bravery.

Undergoing 42 weeks of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation, Gauge fought valiantly. After completing treatment in July 2020, his family hoped for stability, but by April 2021, scans revealed the cancer had spread to his lungs. Despite this setback, Gauge spent the summer of 2021 living life to the fullest—traveling, fishing, shooting, and laughing alongside his loved ones.

Even as his health declined, Gauge's spirit remained unbroken. He was a source of joy and humor until his final moments, leaving behind cherished memories for his mother Jamie and brother Trexler. Though his time was short, Gauge's love and light continue to guide his family from the cosmos. His legacy reminds us to treasure life and embrace every adventure. We love you, Gauge.
