• Friday Madness!
    25 Sep 2026

I set out with the expectation that I would be happy if i got up to 15 miles today (i know it doesn't sound like much, but it's been a butt kicking sort of week).

What I got instead was 18.12 miles, saw a hawk, two turkeys, and quite a few deer.

Whew! And only 5 more miles to hit my goal!

  • 75 Miles so far! Woohoo!
    22 Sep 2026

Wow! 75 miles ridden so far! Considering before all of this I hadn't ridden in a long time, and certainly not of any notable distance. I am so glad to be a part of this challenge, and today I was reflecting on why this challenge is so important.

Too many families are touched by childhood cancer - and there are those that are battling instead of being able to be out and playing or riding bikes, chasing bugs, flying kites and just having fun.

Tomorrow (9/23) is a big day: there are generous sponsors that are matching funds for donations made during that day. That's an awesome opportunity to help really increase the impact.

I'll be peddling more, and my goal of 100 miles is closer than ever!

  • Last full week of the challenge
    21 Sep 2026

It's the start of the week, and many folks are a bit timid concerning Mondays in general. Think of it as a slate wiped clean and a new week rolling.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna sneak a ride in today before my Red Cross appointment, and I think the weather might just cooperate too! I'm over halfway to my miles goal, but way short of my fundraising goal but confident it will all come together.

  • 9-20-26 Rolling thru to the end of the weekend.
    20 Sep 2026

Well, the weather was a bit dryer than yesterday but still damp. I didn't get quite the distance in today that i had planned, and tomorrow is a platelet donation day at the Red Cross, so it'll be zero miles for that day (unless I can manage to sneak one in ahead of my appointment).

But for the ride I did get in, I saw a small herd of three adult deer, and also many riders of all ages out and about.

  • Woohoo! Over halfway through!
    19 Sep 2026

Well, the weather folks were off a bit. The rain certainly wasn't over. But I'm over the 50 mile mark, and that was my goal.

Learned something today: Riding with a dark solid color hoodie when there is a light film of sand on the wet pavement will leave a fairly suspect line straight up your back (no fenders on the bike). Definitely looked sketchy. Anyway, hoodie is working it's way thru the wash and I'm drying out.

  • A smidge more - 9/18/26
    18 Sep 2026

It's been a bit of a butt kicking week, and honestly, I wrestled with pushing my ride off until tomorrow.

I'm glad I didn't, and that I didn't settle for just the 10 miles I was targeting ince I started peddling.

Came across a really neat feather that I absolutely had to circle around to pick up. I think it's a hawk feather, but I'll google-fu it in a second.

11.4 miles is what it finally said - who knows what I would have missed had I not pushed on.

  • Muggy but sunny - I had to ride!
    15 Sep 2026

Earlier it looked like it was going to be a possible rain out, but after working it was pretty sunny and I couldn't turn it down. Besides - good weather ahead is never a promise during falltime in Michigan.

Not a big ride, but almost 7 miles is almost 7 miles - I'll take it.

  • Finishing out the weekend.
    13 Sep 2026

Got another 5(ish) miles in today. Still sore from yesterday's community free fair activities, but I couldn't let the cool breeze of this evening go with celebrating with at least a ride of some sort - and it was worth it. Saw the neighborhood doe / fawn pair, along with the smells of fireplaces beginning to wake up for the fall season.

Gonna have to throttle things up a bit to beat my distance goal.

  • Friday relaxer
    11 Sep 2026

After work and mowing the yard, I was able to sneak in a 7.4-mile ride. I know this may not sound like much to many, but I'm not in the best of shape. But hey, I'll be alot better off after this challenge, and considering I haven't rode much since getting my license many years ago, I'm doing pretty good.

I see there's been a few new donations - thank you so much for supporting this cause (Children's Cancer). Back on August 5th(?) when I decided to participate, it was sort of a spur of the moment decision(I didn't even have my own bike much less ridden in awhile). God has provided - I picked up a good used bike off of fb marketplace, and I'm not as wobbly as I initially feared.

Unfortunately, many of us know someone that has been affected by cancer in some form or another.

  • Shakedown ride and more
    10 Sep 2026

This past Monday i finished swapping out the tires and tubes, adjusting a few things in, and got a few shakedown rides in.

Everything checks out good, and no unusual soreness so we are a go for the rest of the month!

This weekend will be tough to get a ride in as the schedule is pretty packed, but I'm planning on getting atleast another 20 miles knocked out.
