As if I needed another reminder of why I do this, I got three in the last 24 hours. I met a nice couple this evening. They were walking to an event to save trees. We struck up a conversation and they asked what my button was for (riding to kick cancers butt) I told them about the Great Cycle Challenge and they told me that they had lost their grandson to cancer 5 years ago. Since then their daughter has raised $250.000 to fight cancer. I hope they see this and leave me a message. I would really like to speak to their daughter and learn how she has raised so much money in such a short period of time. I would also like to learn more about her son. (who clearly had amazing grandparents)
Shortly before that I saw and old friend who I hadn't seen since the City Market closed down. I found out that he and his wife lost their daughter to cancer just months ago. She was diagnosed and gone within days.
Finally, my wife found out that a friend of hers was just diagnosed with cancer.
I hate this disease and I will keep riding until I am either unable to ride or we have rid ourselves of this horrible disease.
I finally got my have century ride un today. I now have only 215 mils to go to hit my riding goal and 8 days to get there. I can do that. What I worry about, is hitting my fund raising goal. I have never failed to do that and I hope that doesn't change this year. Please share my story with your friends and family. I am only $880 short. We can do this. I'll keep riding and we will find the donors. Together we CAN kick cancer's butt!
Thank you!
I've been riding the same route quite a bit this month because my available time is too close to rush hour, and this road is a lightly traveled access road, which also happens to be very flat! If I look to the west I see lots of farm land. To the east I parallel 69 south. The farm land is not a bad view. Almost 400 miles in with just over 350 to go. Even with my schedule and not taking a week off to ride, I still think I can get it done. But I do need your help. I am $1,350.00 shy of my fundraising goal. I have NEVER not hit my goal. I need 135 people to donate just 10 bucks a piece to help me fight kid's cancers. Spread the word and let's Kick Cancer's Butt!
Another 37 in the books. That brings my total to 121. Starting to look like I'm serious. Now to the Fundraiser. You guys have never let me down before. Let's show them how good you are! ZERO TO $10,000
another 31 miles in the books. That brings my total to almost 90 which, while not bad, still leaves me behind pace. This week will go a long way to getting me to my goal. Tuesday show fire me up. It is Kick Cancer's Butt day!!!
