Tales from the bike seat - GCC ride days 9 & 10

2-FER!

I've been taking it easy and not riding too hard or too far...so far, so good (although I can tell the knees and I aren't on the same terms we used to be. Distinctive "It's not you, it's me..." kinda thing going on)

It's getting darker earlier every day now, thank you Autumnal Equinox. Doing my best to get back before it's too dark, but there's still bad moons rising. Good thing I have lights!

Once I overcome the mental block to get out and get on the bike, it is (mostly, can be) a relaxed, rewarding experience. From the gaggle of geese flying overhead, to the rafter/flock/posse of turkeys, to the buck that ran in front of me and paused on a hilltop in the last rays of sunlight, it helps to keep things in perspective. Yes, I tried to get a picture. Twice! Guess he was a little shy.

I passed the half-way mark in miles tonight - not great, but I have a plan! MOST IMPORTANTLY - I've exceeded my fundraising goals, thanks to all of you!!! Give yourselves a hand, you came through again this year, and I can't thank you enough!

No rain today! Wasn't able to finish the miles I wanted due to rusty knees, but listened to my body and played the long game. (And Sally says I never listen)

Was hoping to give you an exciting picture of spinning bike wheels - you have to settle for the bridge pic.

Took a little tiling break after the first ride. The rain had stopped, but luckily it started again when I left for ride #2. No fancy pictures, just get'er done!

Yes, you read that correctly. Today is my 7th day riding. Of the month.

I had a little issue with this thing called "work". Not wanting to be unemployed or start riding at 10 pm, I chose to keep the bike in the stable.

Got out this morning, though! It was a little rainy and apparently a little foggy, but logged another 26 miles to start the day.

Another pleasant valley Sunday! I didn't think it was possible, but there is a greater force out there, and it was needed to get my butt out of the chair and back onto the bike seat today - Now I'm a believer!

I get so much fan mail. Little Timmy from Roughpaw, IN writes, "Hey Mr. Ernie - are you crazy or something?" Ha ha ha, Little Timmy. No, not crazy - to keep the voices quiet in my head, I listen to music while biking (using safer, bone-conduction headphones, kids...have to hear the cars & moose coming!). Today I listened to a not-so-famous fab four. Perhaps you can guess from the scant clues I've somewhat cleverly woven into this posting.

Winona Minneapolis-Beckworth from Tempe, AZ writes "Hi Dann. Do you have any graphs of your progress this year?" Why, yes, Winona. What would a ride be without graphs? I look at this and I'm happy for the progress so far - but then I think, "Look out - here comes tomorrow!"

All in all, not a bad week...but still, just a stepping stone towards the final goal. Later!
