Dogs walked 2 miles prior, and then 15 more miles on my recumbent bicycle for a third day in a row. #GCCUSA #HumanPowered.

Great Cycle Challenge - Sept 14 | 2025
I dedicate this 14 mile ride to a friends daughter
that passed away from cancer at the age of 14.
There are a number of folks I ride for every year,
along with these kids that are battling cancer.
Some are recovering and some are no longer with us.
I thought a lot about our friend Kevin this week who
volunteered to help out in NY after 9/11 and
wound up passing of lung cancer a number of
years ago.
Doing something positive with them in mind
feels like the right way for me to try to honor
and keep them and their memory with me.

Today we rode 47.58 miles from Jefferson City to Hermann, MO! We cruised today in beautiful overcast weather, keeping us cool and rolling. We stopped and made PB&Js for lunch in Portland, Mo and had a tasty dinner at the Concert Hall and Barrel Tavern in Hermann.
We're back in our room and winding down so we can hit the trail rested and ready to go tomorrow for day 5 for riding the Katy Trail!

I have posted these statistics previously, but it is so important to remember that very little cancer research funds make their way specifically to research pediatric cancers. The challenge is that treatments for pediatric cancers are mostly derived from cancers affecting adults. While they may cure the original disease, they can cause late affect issues.
ella_barna ‘s father was one of the first people I reached out to when Caeden was diagnosed. She had been cancer free for 10 years before the secondary cancer (which resulted from her original treatment) was diagnosed.
This is the 3rd September I am cycling each day to raise funds to support pediatric cancer awareness and research. Please consider supporting these warriors (the link is in my profile).

Since I was very close to the Bartley Rd entrance to the Columbia Trail today for a dentist appointment, figured I take the bike to ride this segment of the trail that I haven’t ridden before after the appointment. Today we finished up our Katy trail adventure! We rode from St. Charles to Machens, celebrated with some champagne, and then rode back to Bike Stop Cafe for some breakfast.
It was a beautiful trip all the way through. I'll be making short and long form videos with footage and pictures as I get settled back into my week.
BUT the cycling isn't over! I still have 324 miles to ride in the Great Cycle Challenge this month, so I'll be announcing some days/times I'll be live streaming and gaming from the indoor trainer, too. Please consider donating to my challenge to help end childhood cancer!

It’s Jim’s 11th year taking on Great Cycle Challenge for kids fighting cancer! ✊
Over his years in the challenge, Jim has clocked an impressive 12,887 miles and raised $5,033 (and counting) to save little lives… go Jim! 🙌
This committed rider first started cycling in 2011 as a way to get back in shape, physically and mentally, to get outside, and to enjoy the outdoors.
One day, he came across GCC and thought to himself, “What better way to help kids with cancer than cycling for a cause?” 🧡
Jim lost his own dad to cancer when he was just 15, so he thought it made a lot of sense as a way to give back.
He continues to ride each year because he knows what he’s doing matters to the kids and families who are fighting this terrible disease.
Jim told us that he rides “in honor of the kids who are fighting every day to beat cancer.”
In the lead up to and throughout the challenge month, he regularly talks about GCC, posts about his rides, and links his fundraising page. You never know who your message will reach and who might be inspired to make a donation. 😉
Jim, your unfailing commitment to the movement to end childhood cancer is something truly special. ✨

Thank you to everyone who donated yesterday for my Great Cycle Challenge enabling me to surpass my target goal of $750. Combined with the 81% matching donation of $168.63, my total donations total so far this month is $950.37!!! $356.61 yesterday alone!! WOW!!!
Why only 81% match you ask? Well the GCC riders raised an amazing $1.85M yesterday so since that exceeded the 1.5M of matching donations, they decided to distribute the matching funds based on a percentage of what each rider raised. So 1.5M / 1.85M =0.811 So everyone had the funds raised yesterday matched 81.08%.
So thank you again. I still have 88 miles to make my 150 mile target, if the weather stays nice that target may increase to 200 miles.
