3-year-old Kai has been bravely battling neuroblastoma since his diagnosis late last year. When he has the energy, he loves to ride his bike around the house all day.

Kai initially complained of back pain, so his mom took him to the ER and requested an X ray of his back, which showed a mass on his stomach.

On December 9, 2025, Kai’s family received the heartbreaking news that their precious baby boy had neuroblastoma.

Kai’s diagnosis came as a big shock – one minute he was running around with his friends, and the next he was being admitted to hospital.

He immediately started a 15-month treatment plan, and his cancer journey so far has been up and down.

Kai has endured 5 x rounds of chemotherapy, surgery to remove his tumor, 5 x blood transfusions, 2 x platelet transfusions, and countless other pokes, prods, and procedures.

Unfortunately, he has also had a number of unexpected hospital stays including a recent one where stomach pain sent him to the ER - doctors found a liter of fluid in his stomach.

His curie score, used to describe the extent and severity of the disease, is currently sitting at 17 (down from 19). Slowly but surely, the cancer is going away.

The plan for Kai is to undergo further chemotherapy treatment to get his curie score down to 2, before he starts radiation.

Some days, Kai seems to have the energy of five 3-year-olds combined but on others, he just wants to be held or to sleep. 

Through it all, he’s been riding his bike as much as possible… it’s one of his favorite things to do! 

Family support has been so important as Kai and his parents navigate this journey. Kai’s grandma, “Suga,” is always there for Kai and his parents, and even stayed with him during a long stint in hospital. His mom told us that Kai often says, “I don’t want to stay with mommy, I wanna go by Suga house!”

Kai has an older brother named Keith, a younger brother named Khalil, and a new sibling on the way! He’s best buddies with their family pets, Missy the dog and Chai the cat.

This little guy loves basketball and has been playing for a year already. As soon as he’s old enough, he’ll join a little league team! 

Spider-Man is his favorite superhero, and he’s never without his Spider-Man plushie and his Spider-Man blanket in hospital – they’re his secret weapons as he kick’s cancer’s butt.

In Kai’s mom’s words, “Children shouldn’t have any worries or concerns besides picking which toy they want to play with today, which outfit they want to wear, or what to eat for lunch. We need to advocate for childhood cancer research to protect these innocent kids, who should not be fighting this disease.”

This little hero still has a long road ahead of him, but he and his family are facing this journey head on. He’s a warrior, and he’ll never stop fighting.
