I'm Riding For

Gail Lawrence

Gail was my mother who I lost at a young age to melanoma. She was a specialized teacher focusing on students that needed help in key life skills (math, reading, speech therapy, etc.) to enable them to attend college or in general have a more successful day-to-day life. It was her way to instill confidence in all that she helped and enable a world full of possibilities mentality. Beyond that, mom kept her communication open so that any students could reach out for help whenever they needed it throughout their entire life. Children are truly our future and should not have to deal with cancer in addition to their other life challenges. Please help us put an end to this disease to give the world of possibilities back to our youth!

My Story

My second year participating thank you all who donated previously but the fight is not over yet!

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

  • Rough riding into the wind!!

    Yesterday I was able to eclipse my initial goal of 500miles and though the wind is raging today I felt like I could get some mileage in.so I set out on my usual route the getting there was not too taxing however the way back was full of invisible walls seemingly pushing on me as hard as I could peddle. Tomorrow we are supposed to get some thunderstorms so I felt it made more sense to try to push today and take on the tomorrow when I have time and evaluate conditions then.   • It's hot outside today...

    On the hot days you just can't push as hard I tried to still log some miles but it was a much slower pace than usual with a lot more ice water breaks. Hopefully the next few days are cooler than today... Otherwise I will have to shift to plan B and log my miles tomorrow on a stationary bike! Hope you are all doing well and staying safe!!!

    The event has started and now we get to see if the training pays off. We are still seeing temps in excess of 110F different days. On days like this it is key to wear sunscreen and use a sun blocker, bring and drink lots of water and take breaks in the shade. Also a good idea to find protein bars you can snack on while you are pushing your body through longer rides and lots of stretching!
