My Story

I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer for my 8th year!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,000 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 42 children die of cancer every week. After accidents, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14. The cancer death rate has declined by more than half over the last few decades in both children and adolescents, largely due to improvements in treatment, new research discoveries, improvements with technology and high participation in clinical trials. Because of major treatment advances in recent decades, 85% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more. Overall, this is a huge increase since the mid-1970s, when the 5-year survival rate was about 58%. We NEED to keep this research moving forward and NEVER GIVE UP!

For me it is personal. Bailey McManus was a family friend. She was diagnosed with cancer and put up a good fight for several years, but in the end the cancer won and Bailey is no longer with us. We NEED to find a cure.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support The Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
