Khurshid Dawawala

Khurshid Dawawala (1942-2014) The dash between the two dates is the life she lived, and part of that life was a borrowed life. Khurshid had a renal failure in 1987. She went through a kidney transplant and lived on a borrowed kidney for 27 years. During this time her only purpose in life was to give in abundance to others. An adoring grandma of six grandkids, a loving mother of three children and a doting wife was diagnosed with stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer in April 2014. Cholangiocarinoma is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer which had spread to her liver, doctors struggled with her treatment. With both her liver and kidney compromised chemotherapy would be a detrimental option. Within two months of her diagnosis on June 25, 2014 Khurshid left her family leaving a void in their lives.

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
