Charlie Roessler

This year a good friend of mine's grandson Charlie, now 12, was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer. I am riding for Charlie this year. Charlie selected this photo knowing it will appear on the NY Times billboard on August 20th. Here, in brief, is Charlie's story as told by his Mom, Heather: “I’m riding in the Great Cycle Challenge for Charlie, an amazing 11-year-old boy who is bravely battling osteosarcoma — a rare and aggressive bone cancer. It’s been a long and difficult road, but Charlie continues to show amazing strength, humor, and courage. Charlie is currently receiving chemotherapy at Roswell Park and Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, and will begin radiation after his chemo is complete. I’m riding to honor his fight — and to help fund research so kids like Charlie can have better treatments, fewer side effects, and brighter futures.”

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
