I'm Riding For

Cindy B. aka Squirt

Cindy B. aka Squirt

This year I have elected to honor my sister-in-law Cindy B (aka Squirt). We have both known the pain of loss from losing loved ones to cancer. Very recently Squirt discovered she now has her own battle to wage against cancer. She has been a model of strength and determination. With every mile I ride, I will be thinking of the battles that lay before her and the kids we all ride for.

My Story

4 May 2024

Once again in September of 2024, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

“Thank you, my brother. I will go over the 300-mile mark tomorrow. I am hoping to be within 50 miles of finishing by next Monday. I appreciate the donation. The first 100 miles are easy, the last 100 aren't bad. It is the 200 in the middle that wears on you. I do a lot of my fundraising early so when I get donations during the riding it is a boost to keep pushing ahead.”

“Wow! Thank you so much Carrie. This was a good day to receive a generous offer like this. I was going to do a training ride in Maryland today but the dual impact of a mild cold and seasonal allergies laid me low for the day so this cheered me right up. See you on the courts soon I am sure.”

Every year when I sit down and set up my page and goals I worry that maybe I am dreaming too big and then my friends come through and remind me year after year how wonderful my friends and family are. See you on the courts soon.”

“I will do my best. My current bike doesn't have the wide moose antler handlebars and grips so I have a few extra inches of clearance. Thanks for the wonderful donation, it helps greatly to get the fundraising part of the process mostly if not taken care of. When will I see you back on the pickleball courts? Miss having you there.”

“Thanks, Tom, especially for your continued support over the past 7 years that contributed to me raising over 10K. If anyone had told me I would have been able to do such a thing back when I started I would have said "What have you been smoking?". I am putting together my list of rides for the summer and then September. I will add more sections of the GAP, the Armstrong Trail, and others down your way. I will let you know when and where in case you are interested in riding along. I am putting together some "car camping" gear. Since the best rides (IMHO) are at least 45 minutes away, I want to hit a section of the state, camp out overnight at a state park, and then log another nearby ride the next day before heading home. That worked fairly well the time I tried it on the one ride we did on the GAP in Ohiopyle and now I have a better idea of what I need to make car camping more comfortable. Thanks again and see you on the trail.”

“What a great surprise to find just before bed. Donations that come in right before I start riding are special. My one goal was to hit $10K for my seven-year fundraising total so since I was asking big, I pledged big by choosing 400 miles in September as my goal. September 1 is approaching fast and your generous donation helps to get me excited to start riding. Thank you so much.”

Seriously though, I saw this after we arrived in Ohiopyle which was 17 miles of mostly uphill riding and this being my 4th straight day of riding I was getting a bit saddle sore. But seeing your donation lifted my spirits and make the ride back to Connellsville easier to enjoy. Thank you so much for the donation.”
