My Story

My cycling journey continues. That's good for keeping me in shape. Kids cancer continues. That's bad. We should have this solved by now. Again this year in the month of September (this is my 6th year), I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! As I get older and my body parts start to wear out, I have to be realistic about my cycling capabilities. I've got a reasonable goal of 300 miles which is lower than in past years. Some other commitments expected in September will keep me from riding as much this year. You all responded so generously in past years with over $15 K of investments in Cancer Research. Thank you! I understand that the economy and inflation are taking a toll on everyone's finances again this year. But, the need is still there.

Why am I doing this? Because, cancer not only kills adults, but it also kills children. We are a product of our environment and what we consume. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. When I think of my granddaughters possibly being exposed to an environmental hazard or the things in our food or their genetics possibly causing cancer in them, I want a cure to be there...ahead of time.

Kids should be living life being the people God created them to be.

So I am raising funds again this year through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

I had to take some time to get to know how to ride my MTB again. It’s been over 2 months since I rode it. Started off with some easy riding on the All American Trail and then climbed up M-Hill. Another beauty of a day.

First Ride Back in SD

Yay. Home! My favorite route is to go out to Sheridan Lake. Good shoulders and lots of climbing. Went over to the south side recreation area this trip. Hadn’t done that before. Gorgeous day. Good to be home.

Had some additional donations today. Thank you soooo much Mike and Sue. Liz and I rode thru parts of Portugal with Sue. She’s quite the rider. Mike, you’re the best. My best man.

Anyway, I realized today that all of my miles this year were ridden in Oregon and California. Nothing in SD yet. That’ll change this weekend hopefully.

Twin Bridges Scenic Byway

Great ride with Liz on a Ride by GPS route. Beautiful scenery. Nice roads….many of which had bike lanes. A nice feature around here. Wish we had more of that back home. Ran into some little friends enroute.

GCC wise, funding has slowed quite a bit. Please share with friends or family that might have interest.

Bend Day 1

We relocated up to Bend OR today. Decided to explore a bit. Really nice town. Bike lanes on all arterial roads. Wow! Lazy river flows thru town. Lots of people out floating down the river.
