My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.

Day off Pleasure ride
6 Sep 2026So today I was off from both jobs. After doing some much needed cleaning with my husband we went to the pond. I pounded out 15 solid miles with 21 laps around. I've got a new saddle and biker shorts, something I'm not used to wearing. Felt amazing. This is definitely my new weekend hobby after this.
Today's advice: Clothing
So this is more of learning as I go. I ride in street clothes most days. 30 minute rides one way, twice a day, not so bad if the weather is perfect. When it's extra hot, it's miserable. When it's cold, bundling isn't too bad. Endurance riding, needs more. Jeans chaff. Shorts are better. As you sweat your clothes collect the moisture and it sticks to you. The more layers that are now wet cause more friction. It's just a bad time. The longer the ride, the better the outfit needs to be to stay comfortable.

Switching Gears: Stepping up the game.
5 Sep 2026Good afternoon. So I needed to do some recalculating after I noticed last night that my current mileage is not going to be enough to cover my goal by the end of the month. I should be riding a total of 15 miles a day so naturally I need to take it up a notch. To help with that I found a location, a pond that's near my house that's perfect for the job so that I can tune in the extra miles that I'm missing from my rides back and forth to work. Along with the need to ride longer I need a wardrobe change because wearing jeans is going to get old with road rash real quick. Shorts it is! Enjoy what I'm calling the "Before" picture of my ghostly pale legs. We are going to try to tone them to the same bronze as my arms. That just shows how much riding I'm going to be doing.
Today's Advice: Gear matters. Do your research.
Wear a helmet. There are plenty of styles out there to suit your comfort and reliability needs. Have a light on the front and back of your bike. Having a front light helps you see the path in front of you for any obstacles that could hurt you or your bike. Having them on front and back helps others see you. Wear bright colored / highly reflective clothing or safety vest. There is nothing scarier than riding along and having a dark figure wearing dark clothing on a dark bicycle with no lights popping out in front of you out of nowhere.

Ride to work with fresh breaks.
4 Sep 2026Back in business, busted out four miles to work. Brakes like butter.
Today's advice: if you drive, Stay OUT of the CrossWalk. It's for Pedestrians. Pedestrians have THE RIGHT OF WAY.
If you ride or walk, don't tolerate cars in the crosswalk.
Failure to Yield: Under Georgia Code ยง 40-6-91, drivers must stop and remain stopped for pedestrians in a crosswalk .
Blocking Crosswalks: Stopping or parking inside a crosswalk, or within 20 feet of it, breaks state traffic rules .

Sorry for Hiatus, just got my bike back.
3 Sep 2026Worked till two at my job. Then had to walk to go pick my bike. We are back in business though. Knocked out another three miles on the way home.
Today's advice: when getting a new bike it's better for you in the long run to get it checked out by a bicycle mechanic. A lot of the main store models are not built correctly.
