This year marks my 8th year participating in the Great Cycle Challenge: Fight Against Kids' Cancer, a cause that is very close to my heart.

As an elementary teacher, I have seen firsthand how cancer can impact the lives of children and their families. Two of my former students battled cancer, and witnessing what they and their families endured left a lasting impression on me. No parent should ever have to watch their child go through such a difficult journey.

The official Great Cycle Challenge takes place in September, but I will begin riding in June and continue through September. Once the school year begins, my schedule becomes much busier, so I take advantage of the summer months to log as many miles as possible.

Looking ahead to this year's challenge, I will have several opportunities throughout the summer and early fall to ride local trails and gravel backroads. I also hope to share some of those miles with family members and friends along the way.
