We Are Riding For
Luke
Luke was taken to urgent care on December 20, 2025 after several episodes of vomiting. They were able to rule out meningitis, appendicitis, and constipation, but did not have any definite conclusions. After his PCP follow-up on Monday, Dec. 22, symptoms were chalked up to a stomach bug. He continued to throw up at least once per day and was scheduled for a follow-up visit on Dec. 30, 2025. He did not make it to that appointment because he had thrown up three times in a row on Dec. 28 and again three times on the morning of the 29th. He was taken to Munson Emergency Department that morning and was given a full MRI scan which showed a tumor on his brain stem. He was taken via ambulance from Munson Emergency Department to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and directly admitted that evening, December 29th. After being admitted, Luke had an EVD (External Ventricular Drain) placed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, to acutely alleviate the pressure the tumor was placing on his brain, which was causing the vomiting. Luke underwent surgery on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and this was successful in removing the tumor, and the post-surgical MRI following surgery looked great. On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Luke's oncologist did report that while the full pathology report was not back yet, it was certain that the tumor is a type of cancer. Luke’s pathology came back with the diagnosis of Medulloblastoma. A double lumen Broviac was placed, along with a Gtube for his inpatient treatment. He spent 2 weeks at Mary Free Bed for inpatient PT and OT at the end of January 2026 before his inpatient chemotherapy rounds began at DeVos. Luke has now undergone 3 rounds of Chemotherapy and 3 cycles of Stem Cell (Bone Marrow) Transplants. All of his treatment has been inpatient. Luke has now met “engraftment criteria” from his 3rd and final transplant, and was released from inpatient at Helen DeVos on July 23.

This September, Wheels Down Racing and Friends for Luke are taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
This year is extra special, we will be riding in honor of Luke, a true superhero at age 4. Please read his tribute below of his cancer journey so far.
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So we are raising funds through our challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support us by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives like Luke.❤️
Thank you.
