Team Lila

Right now, Lila and her family are going through the toughest time of their lives. Lila is currently fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In addition to this, she suffered a stroke before she was born, is non-verbal, fed through a g-tube, and has also been diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, dystonia, and scoliosis. Lila has been a fighter her whole life. Lila's cancer diagnosis was made even more terrifying by the potential complications posed her other diagnoses. She's currently undergoing immunotherapy treatment. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

My Story

I am so excited to ride again in the Great Cycle Challenge! This is my sixth year riding to fight kids' cancer! This is my highest GCC mileage goal! I will probably have to include some miles on my bike trainer this year to reach my 450 mile goal, but they still count! 🚴‍♀️😊 This year I am riding in honor of Lila.

Why am I riding again? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

Funds raised through my challenge support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

    We had an awesome group ride this morning. It was my last official ride for this year’s Great Cycle Challenge, and we logged another 20 miles. Today we rode in memory of Jayden who recently passed away due to leukemia. Please keep his family in your prayers. 🙏🙏🙏

    I am so thankful for the members of the Big Wheel Cycling group! 🙌 They have greatly supported me this month by sharing miles, donations, and prayers! I am most blessed to ride with such awesome friends! 🙌 A lemon-pie ride is in the near future! 🍋

    Another double-ride morning for me. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️ It certainly would not be right if Kelly and I didn’t share some miles today. She has been a faithful friend and supporter of my GCC journey from the very beginning! I am so thankful for our friendship! We have enjoyed our “spin and chat” laps and have logged a lot of miles together!

    With our 16-mile ride, we finished my Challenge goal and even added a “sparkle mile”! ✨🙌🚴‍♀️💕

    A huge thank “thank you” to all of my prayer warriors! I have felt every one of them! 🙏🙌

    With the uncertain weather (rain and/or wind) for the next several days, I was determined to finish this Challenge strong and TODAY! 🚴‍♀️

    I wore my new hero jersey today! Thank you to all who have donated and helped me earn it! 🙌

    Lou, Lynn, and I had an awesome 30-mile ride this morning! It was a beautiful morning to ride and it was full of so many blessings (including an awesome rest stop)! 😇 I am blessed to have all of their support! We have shared many miles together and I am so thankful! 🙌 ❤️🚴‍♀️

    Lynn, Lou and I started out on our 40-mile ride this morning under cloudy skies but otherwise a beautiful morning to ride. But around mile 11, it became the “tri-county duck ride”. 🚴‍♀️🦆🌧️ 😂 We were soaked, but there wasn’t any thunder or lightning so we pedaled on. I’m not sure if we were just determined or crazy (or some of both) 🤪 I am so thankful for Lynn’s navigating us to get exactly the 40 miles we wanted (and dodging the heaviest rain). I am grateful they pushed me to finish. Thankfully the heaviest rain didn’t start until a quarter mile from the house.🙌 Lynn keep saying “we’re doing this for the kids” and that was great motivation. They definitely have a harder challenge than we faced in the rain. I’ve got 85 more miles to go…keep the donations and prayers coming (especially for the Helene’s rain to stay away). Let’s finish this last week strong! 🚴‍♀️🙏🙌💕

I found out yesterday that a friend’s grandson, Jayden, is battling leukemia so today I rode for him. 🙏Please keep him and all the other kids fighting for their lives In your prayers.     Thank you so much to those who have donated to my Challenge so far! With the matching funds from Kicking Cancer’s Butt Day yesterday, I have exceeded my goal of $3000! 🙌 I was a bit concerned this year about my fundraising since I am no longer using social media. God told me to step away from it last fall, and I admit I was not sure what to expect. Well, God has certainly showed up in a mighty way, and I have come to realize I was not dreaming big enough! 🙌 Now I’m enjoying the overflow!     We had another beautiful, breezy day to ride. Lynn, Lou, and I rode to Hookerton and around Lenoir County and got in another 29 miles today! I’m so thankful to share the miles with them! I really appreciate their kindness and fellowship! 🤗🚴‍♀️❤️

    First ride with Kelly in this year’s Challenge! It was quite the blustery ride with the NNE winds today💨but we did it! I kept thinking of the kids fighting cancer and how much harder their fight is and that motivated me to push through the wind. 💪I added another 22 miles to my total! Lynn and Lou even joined us for a few laps. I am so thankful for my husband and friends that help me get my miles completed each year! 😊 I’ve got 378 miles to go so keep the donations and prayers coming! 🚴‍♀️🙏🙌

    I had a great group ride with some of the Big Wheel Cyclists group this morning. It was a much cooler day although still a bit humid.     Today marks the start of the Great Cycle Challenge! This is my SIXTH year participating. My goals this year are to ride 450 miles and raise $3000 for this very worthy cause.

    Since the weather forecast for this afternoon was really hot, I decided to start my day on my bike. I had a great solo ride for 20 miles (in spite of showing up with two right-hand gloves 😝). It was a beautiful sunrise to witness and a time of prayer for the kids fighting this awful disease. I am now only 430 miles from my mileage goal. I look forward to all of the miles to come. 🚴‍♀️

    Since I am no longer on social media, I know it won’t be as easy to spread the word out about my challenge, but I know God is faithful. If He brings you to it, He will bring you through it. 🙌 If you can help share my personal profile page with your friends, I would appreciate it.
