My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

(Those that know me have seen me participating in walk-a-thons, etc. Although it's been quite awhile since I've biked any, this challenge popped up in my fb feed and it has motivated me to take on this challenge.)
***note: mileage starts tallying in September, but I'll update leading into it on how my practice is going. I may increase my goal from it's starting point, but I will not decrease it any. Goal will be locked in before the challenge starts.)

Friday Madness!
25 Sep 2026I set out with the expectation that I would be happy if i got up to 15 miles today (i know it doesn't sound like much, but it's been a butt kicking sort of week).
What I got instead was 18.12 miles, saw a hawk, two turkeys, and quite a few deer.
Whew! And only 5 more miles to hit my goal!

75 Miles so far! Woohoo!
22 Sep 2026Wow! 75 miles ridden so far! Considering before all of this I hadn't ridden in a long time, and certainly not of any notable distance. I am so glad to be a part of this challenge, and today I was reflecting on why this challenge is so important.
Too many families are touched by childhood cancer - and there are those that are battling instead of being able to be out and playing or riding bikes, chasing bugs, flying kites and just having fun.
Tomorrow (9/23) is a big day: there are generous sponsors that are matching funds for donations made during that day. That's an awesome opportunity to help really increase the impact.
I'll be peddling more, and my goal of 100 miles is closer than ever!

Last full week of the challenge
21 Sep 2026It's the start of the week, and many folks are a bit timid concerning Mondays in general. Think of it as a slate wiped clean and a new week rolling.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna sneak a ride in today before my Red Cross appointment, and I think the weather might just cooperate too! I'm over halfway to my miles goal, but way short of my fundraising goal but confident it will all come together.
